The experience of human "being" is complicated. Contemporary living can be extremely stressful as we negotiate family, work, friendship, and community life. At times, our experience of living can be overwhelming even when things are good.
When the context of our lives includes the loss of a loved one, strained relationships, early experiences of trauma, identity-based marginalization, a child experiencing unexpected challenges, or the significant uncertainties of our time, we may experience anger. sadness, fear, and disconnection from ourselves and others. What once seemed like a clear vision of self and future can become hazy. Most often this suffering and disorientation are normal reactions to our lived experience.
Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to unpack our complex, confusing, and often contradictory thoughts and feelings with the aim of finding meaning and restoring our sense of clarity, purpose, vitality, and connection; or perhaps, finding it anew.
Through careful listening, I seek to understand the unique strengths, concerns, cultural context, and aspirations of each person. With over 30 years of experience in private practice, community mental health, and the training of graduate students in counseling psychology, I have integrated a wide range of theories and practical techniques with my primary emphasis on relational connection to empower clients toward their self-determined goals.
